Captured in seconds, by timer or keyboard
One click starts the timer, which keeps running across pages, survives a reload and can be stopped with a keyboard shortcut or from the sidebar. If you prefer typing, manual entries take seconds. Every hour is tagged to a project, task and client, with a billable override and a rounding rule per project. Recurring entries cover repeating work, and the project budget updates live, so you always know where you stand.

ArbZG-compliant when you need it
The duty to record working time has applied in Germany for years, since the ECJ ruling of 2019 and the BAG decision of September 2022. In Pistacio you switch it on with a single setting. Durations become clock-in and clock-out times with breaks, and the week grid becomes a timeline. The app checks daily and weekly maximum hours, minimum breaks and rest periods under the ArbZG, for Germany and Austria, on recorded and planned times alike. Records stay tamper-proof, are retained for the required period and then deleted automatically, with no biometrics involved.

Overtime, flexitime and surcharges
Pistacio calculates overtime automatically each month, contractually agreed hours against actually logged ones. Overtime booked manually goes to approval first, then into payout or time off in lieu. Flexitime runs with core and flexible hours plus a running working-time account that everyone can see. Night, Sunday, public-holiday and overtime surcharges are calculated per line and flow straight into the payroll export, ready for your accounting.

Approve and analyze without double entry
Managers see every team member's entries for the week and approve or reject them in one step, while the approval inbox on the dashboard shows exactly what is still pending. On top sits the reporting, all drawn from the same entries with nothing maintained twice: budget burn per project, logged hours against agreed capacity, utilization per person and a rolling seven-day curve on the dashboard.

Week grid and Mac menu-bar app
The week grid works like a spreadsheet: project rows, day columns, hours straight into the cell, with copying to selected days. On Mac the menu-bar app joins in, with the running time and a global start-stop shortcut, and in the browser Pistacio runs just as well on tablet and phone. You capture time where you actually work, without switching windows or breaking your flow.
